The definition and purpose of crowdsourcing and social engagement with users will be discussed with particular reference to the Australian Newspapers service, FamilySearch, Wikipedia and the Distributed Proofreaders. These services have harnessed thousands of digital volunteers who transcribe, create, enhance and correct text.
